Family offices versus VCs - which is the best investor for your startup?
The International Family Offices Journal
Vol. 3 - Iss. 1 pp. 9–12
Sep 2018
Pierre duPont offers an interesting analysis comparing the pros and cons of a family office versus a venture capital firm, as an investor in start-up ventures. He includes a wealth of practical advice, including how to decide if a particular family office is a good match. Although family offices are assumed to be ?patient' capital and perhaps less demanding, Pierre stresses that for any type of investor the story must be solid: In either case, it is critical that you prepare well. Have a concise statement of what you are doing, how it is different and better than what others are doing or can do, why you are the right team to be successful, and how you will grow the firm and make money. Get this statement reviewed by a variety of advisors and people whom you respect, and listen to their comments and advice.
