There can be few professions that bask in, or suffer from, so much exposure, self-examination and self-imposed (or self-courted) publicity as the legal profession and probably the legal profession in the United Kingdom in particular. For all of that, there are some subjects that are often skirted around because of the uncomfortable and potentially reader-alienating conclusions that emanate from them. The reader might at this stage like, before going further, to jot down his/her thoughts as to what those untouchable issues might be from his/her own perspective. Whether or not you have done that, let me volunteer a non-exhaustive list of my own candidates for the legal elephants in the room.
