Law firms from across the spectrum are facing three interconnected challenges to remain relevant to their clients: the challenge of globalisation; the challenge of being sufficiently innovative; and the challenge of adapting to a tougher economic climate. For many organisations, merging with another firm is the natural solution to meeting these challenges. However, as will be discussed, the manner in which a merger is conducted is just as important as the motivation in determining whether the process will ultimately be successful - the means and the ends are inherently linked.
