Situations often arise to cause organisations to merge or be acquired. Knowledge management (KM) provides the strategy for combining the knowledge of the companies involved in a merger or acquisition. The strategy must take into account the challenge of combining cultures, and in many cases systems of knowledge and insights. This strategy will enable the organisation to grow (and in some cases survive) and enhance its competitive advantage over its competitors. Managing knowledge is increasingly recognised as being a critical strategic task for an organisation during a merger or acquisition.
