Family offices are becoming increasingly sophisticated, with growing emphasis on governance, succession planning, and asset protection. In this context, the Cayman Islands foundation company (FC) has emerged as a versatile hybrid structure, combining features of company law with elements of trust law. This makes FCs particularly attractive for ultra-high-net-worth families and complex family office arrangements. The article examines the legal characteristics of FCs and their practical applications, including their role in private trust company (PTC) structuring and as standalone entities within the family office ecosystem, highlighting why they are gaining traction in modern wealth management strategies.
