The core of any enduring organisation is a strong sense of purpose. In a family-owned business, that sense of purpose often focuses on its people, product and impact in the community. Research on family businesses that endure for 200 years or more shows that the sense of pride and identity from this sense of purpose becomes one of the core elements for what sustains a family business across generations.
