The need for data transparency in a sector where confidentiality is paramount

There is a huge drive to utilise legal data in legal services, but in a sector where confidentiality is the bedrock of professional ethics, this doesn't always present itself as an easy task. We need to shift away from seeing professional obligations of confidentiality as an inhibitor to innovation and instead see it as an opportunity to have an open and transparent conversation with clients about how data can be used to enhance the client experience. This presents a unique opportunity for clients to ask for value from their law firms in exchange for their data. In doing so, the sector as a whole can benefit.
