The International Family Offices Journal

James E Hughes, Jr, Joanie Bronfman and Jacqueline Merrill reflect on the challenges arising for modern couples who are what is termed 'fiscal unequals', where a woman in a relationship with a man is more wealthy than the man. The article draws on the expertise of its three authors in the fields of law, coaching and psychotherapy to offer an interesting perspective on the impact that unequal wealth of this kind might have on a relationship and family. The article considers the historical and societal basis for couples with fiscal inequalities, examines the cultural and emotional reasons for these dynamics and goes on to outline specific processes that will be of practical use to families to which this applies.
