The role of a family office extends far beyond managing wealth; it is a dynamic and multifaceted institution that balances the tangible with the intangible to ensure long-term sustainability and legacy preservation. As the definitions of 'wealth' and 'value' have broadened, so too have the functions and priorities of family offices. Peter Vogel, a professor of Family Business and Entrepreneurship at the IMD Business School in Lausanne, aptly summarises this shift in our book Family Office Fundamentals: "Most people would initially think of financial capital, but we also think about human and social capital and other types of capital".
