Is the Middle East catching up with the leading trust jurisdictions?

When thinking about the leading trust jurisdictions, a host of common law jurisdictions (such as England and Wales, Guernsey, Jersey, the Cayman Islands, Bermuda, The Bahamas, Hong Kong, Singapore and New Zealand ? to name but a few) spring to mind. Perhaps featuring less frequently in trust commentary are the regimes on offer in Middle East jurisdictions. The Qatar Financial Centre (QFC), Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) and Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) do, however, have their own comprehensive codified trust legislation. Despite this, both local and international families with Middle East connections are largely still choosing to use foundations to fulfil their wealth structuring objectives, or for those opting to use trusts, these are being administered offshore and with a trust deed governed by the law of a common law jurisdiction.
